What I don’t do any more

There are several issues with academic work in our neoliberal societies that I am happy I do not have to put up with any longer.

  1. I do not need to spend time on doing metawork instead of actual work: people employed in Academia nowadays have to sacrifice increasing portions of their time applying for funding instead of doing research or teaching.

  2. I can ignore reforms and “improvements” that involve business consultants turning public universities into simulations of private companies.

  3. I can forget about visions, profiles and strategies, profit responsibility, financing models, ranking lists, etc.

  4. Finally, my personal embarrassment for university WWW pages devoid of real information but full of meaningless pictures, advertisement-style oversized headlines and other consultant-approved “content” can develop into the outsider’s less painful pity.
